The higher educatio scenario in India is quite impressive wid IIT (new ones hv been announced), IIMs, ISM and the age old universities which have been churning out educated people. But there seems to a big gap that exists between the insti and the companies. most of the young professionals complain bt the lack of technical knowhow and upgradation in the industry. The private sector is better tha the PSU and Govt organizations in implementation of tech and r open to accept the changes and hv some kind of realtion wid the insti.
Still we r still far behind the global standard in nurturing a academic-industry realtionship. This will be beneficial for both sides as the industry can get their tailor-made solution from the young and energetic mind guided by experienced teachers. The insti in turn can generate revenue and most importantly work for them which will act as catalyst for pursuing excellence.
Insti like MIT, Cambridge brings out patents every 2nd day but how many patents or innovations suited for the Indian society have come out of IITs or IIMs or any insti in India????
But India is biggest supplier of the best trained manpower in the world. just imagine if that work force would hv been working in India???????
We follow a pretty archiac and bureaucratic style of functioning gifted to us by Britain after Independence and quite foolishly carried forward by Nehru. Thanks to rajiv Gandhi & Dr Manmohan singh for ushering India into a open world. It was common apprehension that India would fare very badly at the open market but the result has been very promising.
With the kind of Competence and intelligence that is available in India it is possible to be a centre of Educational excellence.
This cannot be achieved in isolation as all sectors have to be behave like a team to achieve the desried result.
Industry insti interface at higher education sector is the need of the hour and foreign investment can also be allowed bound by strict rules and regulations. We must increase our standard by keeping in view the national interest.
The primary education sector must be completely overhauled and reorganised. we will need something better than "Operation Blackboard" to revamp the primary education sector. The same suggestion was proposed by the nobel laureate Dr Amartya Sen to Govt of West bengal which was instantly declined by The Leftist govt of Bengal. But if Dr Sens idea is quite logical and should be implemented. Its a pity that all the planning commissions and the target has not given much emphasis to the sector apart from some slogans and initiative like Mid day meal (a failure) Sarba Siksha Abhijan (lacks infrastructure and planning) Operation Blackboard(just on board). A tree cannot grow tall if the roots are weak.
We need to form cooperation at each level to achieve tha goal.
